A songwriter and background vocalist since 2001, Keri Hilson has been under the radar beginning her career as a writer for artists like Ciara, Usher, Ludacris and even Britney Spears. Appearing in and out of the scene she made a mainstay in the music arena when she signed with Timbaland’s Mosley Music Group in 2006. It was at that time that she began working with Timbaland on her first album, In a Perfect World…, which after many push backs, is due out later this year. But while awaiting the release of her first album she has not strayed away from being a featured artist as she was heavily featured on Timbaland’s Shock Value album on the hit single The Way I Are, as well as Scream, Miscommunication and Hello. In those tracks she displayed how she can be a great feature artist and her ability to blend in with the great producing style of a great like Timbaland

While working on the release of her album, Hilson has also been featured on Chris Brown’s Superhuman and Forever, Nas’ Hero and Kardinal Offishall’s Numba 1 (Tide is High). Keri has also made a few music video appearances as she was featured in Usher’s Love in This Club video, Ne-Yo’s Miss Independent, and Nelly’s Party People video. So she has definitely stayed busy.

Her first single, Energy, was released over this past summer 2008 and hit the Billboard 100 as an instant hit single. Since then she has released her second and third singles, Return the Favor and Turnin’ Me On featuring Lil Wayne. In Turning Me On, she shows a more edgier style than her usual ballad ballad style of vocals as shown in songs like Energy and Superhuman with Chris Brown. Turning Me on now is one of the top songs in the country and is in constant rotation on radio stations and in the clubs.
Keri Hilson is definitely a hit album away from super-stardom and with the right production through Timbaland and her already great talent in writing and vocals, she is sure to be a mainstay and could potentially compete heavily with the likes of Rihanna and Beyonce.
Does she have the potential star power of the late of Aaliyah, who was also a Timbaland vocalist of the late 90′s? Stay tuned to find out…
