I just happened to attend the Solange and Estelle concert this past Wednesday night at the House of Blues and to say the least I had a great time. Just becoming a recent fan of Solange and Estelle’s it was good to be able to see them in Chicago after recently getting into their albums.

At first listen of Solange’s most recent album Sol-Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams I definitely fell in love with how she pays homage to 50′s & 60′s female singers as her style is a mix of Motown and Electronica. She started her set performing Dancing in the Dark, and went into performing her most recent single T.O.N.Y. as well as Would Have Been the One, Sandcastle Disco, 6 O’Clock Blues, and what I feel was the highlight of her show was when she performed her letter to the music industry, F*ck the Industry. In this slow down of her set she performed she also mixed other songs Dubbie Ashtray and ChampagneChronicNightcap. The crowd was definitely feeling how she broke down this part of her set and you can see the passion in her eyse with the words she was singing. She definitely worked the crowd, even coming down into the crowd while performing her last song I Decided. If you haven’t heard her album please, get into it here:Solange - Sol-Angel & the Hadley St. Dreams

Now, going into the concert I was not entirely familiar with Estelle’s music, but knew she had the song American Boy featuring Kanye West and her most recent single, Come Here. After going to this concert I definitely feel like Estelle is a headliner as she has a different feel for music, mixing in some reggaeton and hip hop into her songs. In her set, she told stories that mixed in well with her songs – in the storytelling you can tell where the inspriation for her songs came from. She performed songs from her most recent album, Shine, including Wait A Minute, Substitute Lover, and even a song she created called, F You, which definitely had the crowd giving her their full attention. In leaving the concert I left with a different perspective on her. Definitely check out her album, from what I heard on Wednesday I am expecting the rest of it to be great:Estelle - Shine
