The sweet, sultry and smooth voice of Chrisette Michele is back with her sophomore album in Epiphany which dropped today. Widely known for her suprisingly (and well slept on) great last album, I Am, because of tracks like Best of Me and Be Ok (which won her an Grammy for Best Urban/Alternative Performance) as well as her guest appearances with artists like Jay-Z, Nas, and The Roots – Chrisette is back to give us more of makes her special.
With this album she truly stamps her name in a genre which includes other greats like Jill Scott, Macy Gray, and Erykah Badu with the jazz, urban alternative feel of her music. After listening to this album I felt Chrisette is the modern-day cross between Anita Baker with a bit of Whitney Houston, with that jazzy, smooth tone and voice but with the ability to give you a tough, raw feel as well. I think she crosses alot of barriers with her this album being more upbeat, and will attract a new group of fans that she didnt have before.
You can tell that Ne-Yo had a big influence on this album with more of a pop style – and you know everyone loves Ne-Yo across different genres and cultures. She definitely comes harder and tougher and doesn’t portray the sweet, baby faced woman you see in pictures. She certifies her independence and toughness as seen in her first single is the album titled, Epiphany (which I provided the video for and features a guest appearance by Drake) and songs like Another One and On My Own. Her next single is duet with Ne-Yo called What To Do and Blame It On Me. With her first album, I Am, producing 4 singles I think Chrisette Michele will impress a bigger audience and bring another 4 single album.
