Back to the Feature Mixtape – Wale

Blogging live from Atlanta (the grind never stops…) I had to supply you with the new and long awaited mixtape from DMV ambassador, Wale. The Back To The Feature mixtape was supposed to drop last month but pending his tour dates while trying to work with producers, and mixing time, Wale finally dropped his mixtape this past Friday. The mixtape features production by 9th Wonder and features from Talib Kweli, Royce Da 5′9″, Joe Budden, Daniel Merriweather, Bun B, K’Naan, Mike Posner, Jean Grae, Big Sean, J. Cole, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Joell Oritz, Curren$y, Young Chris, Tre (from UCB), Dre (from Cool & Dre), XO, Torae, Kingpin Slim, etc. etc. I haven’t been able to listen to it yet, but I’ve already heard great reviews thanks to my fellow hip hop head @skinnyblackgirl (gotta love Twitter) – I hear it was definitely worth the wait. UPDATE: I have been able to listen to this mixtape and I can truly say that it is hip hop in its most raw and true form. The features were great on it. I’d definitely recommend downloading this mixtape – check out my top 5 songs: Rather Be With You (feat. J.Cole & Curren$y), Pot of Gold (feat. Daniel Merriweather), 5 Minutes (feat. Skyzoo), Wonder Why (feat. Big Sean, Ken Starr, and Mike Posner) and Um Ricka (feat. K’Naan). This is top to bottom, unadulterated hip-hop. But also listen to how Wale does not hold back from talking about his critics and in The Sun, his groovy track with rapstress Jean Grae and the ever so loved to Go-Go music with Sweatin’ Out Weaves feat. UCB. 9th Wonder’s production on most of the tracks was star studded with soulful beats that fitted Wale’s style. Overall, its a versatile and well-rounded mixtape – almost worthy to be an LP in itself. Go get it!
