The Britni Elise Chicago Showcase

Published on June 26th, 2009

As I am always looking to find young and upcoming stars for WHAT’S IN MY HEADPHONES it was my pleasure to attend the lovely Britni Elise’s first showcase that was in Chicago this week. At first listen of her current single Satisfied you can recognize the potential she has to be a force in women’s R&B, but to hear her sing live in person was truly a treat, and even more of a pleasure to get to interview her.
Hopefully you have heard of Britni Elise before this post but if you have not you can surely hear her song Satisfied playing on most radio stations throughout the country. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Britni says she got her start banging on a piano her mother bought for her and she was in love ever since. Her musical influences include classic artists like Prince, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and Michael Jackson.
First apart of a trio for a gospel and later an R&B group, she began to explore her path as a solo artist in after 2007. It was after then that she was recognized for voice and talent by baseball All-Star Kenny Lofton, who signed her to his K-Lo Entertainment Group as his first artist. At only 19 and singing in a genre that features other stars like Beyonce, and Jennifer Hudson she advises young artists to continue “to persevere and be persistent in achieving your goals – When friends are out partying and hanging out, continue to perfect your craft.” In the future she hopes to work with artists like T.I. and Beyonce as she grows in her music. With the quick time I had to speak with her you can tell she is very motivated on accomplishing her dream to be an artist, but is a very humble soul.
Now on to her singing and I hate to make comparisons to other artists so I won’t because she will be her own Britni Elise. Britni has the singing ability, dance moves, stage prescence and appeal to make it big VERY soon. Some artists you hear sing on the radio or on tracks and they can not really sing in person. Britni Elise is not one of those artists! She definitely has a great sound, range and ability to “wow” a crowd. Not afraid to show her youth, her show featured different stages of her being in love and she doesn’t try to be something she’s not.
I’ve only posted two songs she performed including Dirty Diana at the beginning (you have to love the Michael Jackson dedication, R.I.P.) and her single Satisfied, but she also did a cover of Mariah Carey’s Vision of Love that let the crowd know that she can definitely hit the high notes. She personifies the phrase “raw talent.”

Good interview, Justin. I had the privilege of interviewing her for Polished back in February and she's awesome. So excited to see her buzz go nationwide.
