Two mixtapes that I was working on getting to listen to as part of music Monday on Twitter were Chicago native Add-2 Tale of Two Cities Vol. 3: The Rise & Fall and LA representative Dom Kennedy’s Better Than Bobby mixtapes. Both mixtapes dropped at the end of last weekend but in taking a short hiatus over the weekend from blogging I finally got a chance to get a listen of both tapes.
Add-2 Tale of Two Cities Vol. 3: The Rise & Fall

Good to see a Chicago natives doing it big on the blogs…I got a chance to listen to this mixtape which was produced by Slot-A, also another Chi City representative who provides a great range of soulful and uptempo beats for Add-2 to rhyme on. Shouts out to Okayplayer and 2DopeBoyz combining to drop this and support another great upcoming artist. With not many features on this mixtape, you truly get to hear Add-2′s voice and message behind every song. There is no denying this mixtape, it deserves whatever good pub it gets, and thorough from top to bottom. You can tell Add-2 put alot into this mixtape, having many songs that most of our generation can relate to – not really talking about being being fly but relationships, episodes with females, and being on your full-time grind. Songs that I liked on here were Luxury, Locker Room Stories, Starter Jacket, The Rise & Fall, Martin & Gina, and Goodluck & God Speed (which is like his Kanye-esque Last Call track). To learn more about Add-2, check out his Myspace page or follow him on Twitter.

Dom Kennedy – Best After Bobby Mixtape

I first began listening Dom Kennedy with his last mixtape, FutureStreet/DrugSounds, and was very impressed with his work as I feel he may one of the many slept on rappers from the West coast. As we get into this mixtape, where he provides rhymes over some of hip hop’s hottest tracks right now and also some classic hip hop beats, Dom seems to be striving to differentiate himself from the rest of the “left coast” in his style. The LA accent is there but his sound is different from a Jay Rock or Nipsey Hussle. Features are on the mixtape include Reese, Rich Boy, and Like & Mibbs of Pac Div. Check out tracks that I dug which include…Dom Good, Idontwannafuckeverygirlintheworld, Cooler, Up and Down Remix feat. Rich Boy, and On and Off Switch f. Like & Mibbs of Pac Div and Mykel.
