It’s quite phenomenal what Lady Gaga has done to the music industry in such a short period of time.  Lady Gaga is sure to be on L.A. Reid’s short and long list of industry losses (amongst them: LaFace Records, Pebbles, Def Jam selling albums for Manufacturer’s Retail Sale Price [MSRP]) considering that he cut Lady Gaga before the release of her debut album. Lady Gaga has made a great imprint in the industry and captured many music fans attention and fascination.

Lady Gaga’s recent music collaboration with Beyonce for the “Video Phone” remix & it’s corresponding video left many music fans (primarily Beyonce ones) scratching their heads this week because the images/sound wasn’t what they were used to from Lady Gaga’s recent singles. Although Gaga’s chameleon-esque efforts were albeit intentional, she’s still has a sound that she’s faithful to and quite good at mastering. Lady Gaga’s upcoming “Fame Monster” is definitely a great EP  post her commercial successful debut album “The Fame.”

Terry Urban recently released the “Lady Stardust” mixtape which is a mashup of some of her most commercially successful songs from her debut album with David Bowie’s alter-ego “Ziggy Stardust.” This mixup between the two artists is quite dope and unexpected, but surprisingly fits. The two artists both have an element of the popular NYC club “Studio 54″ from the ’70s  and a sense of escapism mixed in. In the “Lady Stardust Intro”–Gaga verbally cites Bowie as an influence and post acknowledgement you can see Bowie’/Ziggy’s ”glam rock” aesthetic in  Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga and Ziggy Stardust have a similar strain of creativity where their musical and personal images blur the line of entertainment and real life. Gaga and Bowie both personify a strong sense of imagination and to hear both artists combined is quite enthralling.

Mixtape Downloand and More after the Jump…

The mixtape is a short one and worth a listen, especially if you are a fan of either artist. The mixtape definitely makes Gaga’s music sound anew. One of the best tracks is “Let’s Just Dance” which is her “Let’s Dance” single heavily infused with David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.” The Bowie sample is bound to excite the ears-especially if one was a fan of Puff Daddy’s “Been Around the World” which previously sampled the infectious beat.

Also worth a listen  is “Love Under Pressure” which also mashes up Queen’s “Under Pressure” and equally symbolic since her name is from Queen’s single “Radio Gaga.”  ”Paparazzi People” which blends perfectly with Bowie’s “Cat People (Putting Out Fire)” and produced by Double O sounds like classic rock and Christophen Walken’s soliloquy of “Poker Face” is a good laugh.

David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust” wowed years ago due to his creativity, eccentricity and great disco music–his alter ego even served as a loose inspiration for Saul Williams’ current alter-ego “Niggy Tardust.” It’s exciting too hear two respective, generationally exciting artists infused together for a creative streak, this download is sure to delight any Lady Gaga fan and make new fans for Bowie.
