There’s just something about Rockie that can’t be denied.  After dropping his second offering “The Otherside” in late 2010, the Chicagoland bred upstart saw his movement growing at a rapid pace. After re-releasing “The Otherside” last year, it reminded folks of why his buzz was growing to begin with. He has begun 2012 off on the right note by releasing more music. Driving 88 pushes forward into the future (hence the “Back to the Future” soundbites and the Delorean on the cover).

The title track, featuring Casey Veggies, is a laid back that finds the star of the show “feeling good, feeling great.” Never, Never goes hard, with Rockie providing an honest view of his last year, and drops a few gems: “Since you got it, know your time is of the essence/ if you say  you got a gift, make ‘em appreciate your presence…” “You a Lie,” is a dope slow burning joint that’s surely getting burn in the streets. Same for “Twenties,” which cleverly plays on the word in the hook over the guitar laden track. “How We Do” featuring fellow Chicago noisemaker King Louie. If you’ve peeped the video for this single, then you already know. “No Fear” is a clear standout on the album, and is one of those joints that turns the unlikely hip-hop listener into Rockie Fresh fans, as well as “Doesn’t Matter.”

Simply put, Driving 88 is a big improvement over “The Otherside,” and that’s saying a lot, because that tape was good. At just 20 years old, and assuming he’s only going to get better, Rockie Fresh is a problem. As soon as he gets the platform he deserves, and finds his own distinct sound, game over.
